Open Air Fire Ban- Huron County

June 1, 2023: Effective at 11:59pm the Huron County Fire Chiefs have declared an open-air fire ban in Huron County. There will be no open-air burning permitted in Huron County until further notice.
This fire ban is being imposed due to the extreme dryness of all vegetation in the area and shall remain in effect until further notice.

Watershed Conditions Statement - Water Safety

Based on the current precipitation forecast and watershed conditions, major flooding is not expected. Watercourses will respond quickly due to saturated soils and river levels that are already elevated from last week’s rain and snowmelt. Water levels are again likely to reach or exceed bankfull conditions resulting in ponding and minor flooding in typical low-lying areas.

Recycling Study – Waste Management Under Producer Responsibility

Burnside & Associates Limited was retained by the Townships of Howick, North Huron and Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh to assess current landfill practices and to develop a recycling plan to accommodate the transition of recycling (Blue Box) from municipal collection and processing to Producer Responsibility. The transition is to proceed in accordance with the ‘Blue Box Regulation’ (O.Reg. 391/21) under the ‘Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016’.
