2024 Tree Program

There has been a number of changes made to the Tree Program for 2024. Council has agreed to purchase 500 trees to be provided to landowners at a subsidized rate of $10.00 per tree. Find out how you can enter the lottery system to receive trees here!

Community Onsite Septic Inspection Program

Council of the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is committed to the preservation of the environment and natural resources of the area.

The objective of the program is to aid in keeping our lakes, rivers, streams and groundwater pollution free. Septic systems that are improperly maintained, outdated or malfunctioning may have a negative impact on the groundwater, the surrounding water bodies and the environment. Systems on waterfront properties are first priority but all systems in the Township will be inspected.

Community, Capital and Community Partnership Grant Applications

The Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh aims to improve the well-being and quality of life of the community and its residents through financial assistance to non-profit, community-based organizations. Applications to the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh for Community Grant Funding will be accepted no later than January 31st each year.

Growth & Servicing Master Plan

A Growth and Servicing Master Plan will allow the Township to proactively plan for future growth. The plan considers opportunities, constraints and existing conditions to give the Township a better understanding of what our communities can look like in the future.

Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan

A 10-year Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan, along with Concept Plans, has been developed to guide the future growth and enhancement of public parks, trails, facilities, and recreational in the Township.

Recycling Study – Waste Management Under Producer Responsibility

R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) was retained by the Townships of Howick, North Huron and Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh (collectively “the Townships”) to assess current landfill practices and to develop a recycling plan to accommodate the transition of recycling (Blue Box) from municipal collection and processing to Producer Responsibility. The transition is to proceed in accordance with the ‘Blue Box Regulation’ (O.Reg. 391/21) under the ‘Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016’ (RRCEA).

Short-Term Rentals

The Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh has established a Short-Term Rental (STR) Committee. This is a special (Ad-hoc) committee of Council established to make a recommendation to Council on a draft licensing by-law to regulate STRs in the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh (ACW).

Zoning By-Law Update

The ACW Zoning By-law was passed on June 3rd, 2008 its purpose is to provide regulations which will affect control over all forms of land use or other related matters within the Township. The update process was initiated by Council in June 2023.
