Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan

April 2023

Council adopted a 10-year Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan to guide the future development of public parks, trails, facilities, and recreation programs. The Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan includes recommendations for developing a concept plan for several parks in the Township to determine the design of the park and the amount and type of amenities and facilities possible.

September 2023

Council supported the staff recommendation to develop concept plans for parks and directed staff to issue a request for proposal. 
Request for Proposal (RFP) was issued in October 2023 for consulting services to undertake the conceptual design of five existing parks and three new/proposed parks in the Township. Based on priority recommendations of the Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan, the scope of the RFP included design of the following parks:
• Ashfield Park
• Benmiller Community Hall & Ball Diamonds
• Dungannon Park/Joseph Street Park
• St Helens Hall & Playground
• Petrie Park
• Century Heights Park
• Maitland View Estates Park
• Vacant James Street, Joseph Street Parcels & Dungannon Well Reservoir Site

November 2023

Council accepted the proposal from Pl.ural (Stempski Kelly Associates Inc.) to prepare conceptual plans for Township parks.

November 2024

Pl.ural (Stempski Kelly Associates Inc.) have completed the plans have been adopted by Council. You can review the concept plans on the link below.  

This concept plan is a supporting high-level plan that illustrates the initial long-term vision for development of Parks and Recreation in the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh. The purpose of this plan is to provide a visual aid to illustrate the vision and development intent and help determine how an area could evolve. 

Next Steps

Concept plans will be used to guide the development of Parks and Recreation in the Township.
