About Emergency Preparedness Week

Take action so that you, your family, and your community are prepared for emergencies.

Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is a national event supported by Public Safety Canada, working closely with provincial and territorial emergency management organizations, Indigenous organizations, non-governmental organizations, and private sector who support activities at the local level. An annual event for over 25 years, it traditionally takes place during the first full week of May.

May 1 - 7, 2022
Everyone has a role to play in an emergency. EP Week is an opportunity for you to take action to ensure you are prepared to protect yourself, your family and your community during an emergency. This year, the theme is Emergency Preparedness: Be Ready for Anything. The intent of this theme is to encourage Canadians to take action to become better prepared for the range of emergencies they could face in their region.

No community is equipped to handle all the demands of a catastrophe. Knowing what to do when a disaster strikes will help you better control the situation and be in a better position to recover more quickly.

Get Involved!

This year we have two ways for you to carry the message on your social media channels. Participate in our tag challenge or enter to win an emergency kit.

Be a positive influence within your networks by participating in our tag challenge. Show us your best emergency preparedness tip in a video or photo, and tag 3 or your friends or family and ask them to share their tip.

You can also win an emergency preparedness kit. Simply tell us how how you’re helping to make you and your family better prepared to cope during an emergency, and use the hashtag #ReadyforAnything.
It can be as simple as making an emergency kit with items found around your home, creating a family emergency plan, or becoming more informed about the hazards in your area. Get creative and post those messages, photos, or videos!
Don’t forget to use the hashtags #EPWeek2022 and #ReadyforAnything.
